Miko DeHoniesto is a San Diego based artist focusing on accessing freedom through various forms of expression. She believes her magic is the way her art manifests itself into the world. The practicing of magic is a ritual that binds tangible with the intangible and brings about new life and perspectives. She works frequently with screen print materials, ink, and gouache. A lot of her focused art practice involves small and medium sized oil paintings.

Her work encompasses themes of inner child healing, self reflection, the red string of fate, and the ritual of tarot. She is naturally drawn to a very intuitive practice of magic, having a background of herbalism and love for healing plants. She draws on themes of ritual of daily tarot practice combined with the concept of ancestor veneration as her source of reason. She moves fluidly between being tied to the self and assuming the traits of another as a form of protection.

In her works she explores themes of grief, loss, trauma, and what it means to be liberated from the shackles of fear. She uses her creativity as a tool to access and speak on parts of herself that once brought her shame or left her feeling misunderstood. The work is both cathartic and ever changing as she surpasses each channel of anguish. An on going process of growth, learning, and transformation. Each new piece tells a story of the past, present, and future versions of herself.
